Known as the Cocktail Wonk, I am a rum and Tiki expert and co-author (along with Mrs. Wonk) of Minimalist Tiki: A Cocktail Wonk Look at Classic Libations and the Modern Tiki Vanguard. At the end of 2018, Mrs. Wonk and I walked away from our respective multi-decade careers to pursue new careers. I dove headlong into rum education and consulting alongside the spirited writing I’d started in 2013.
My interest in Tiki years ago sparked my interest in rum, which takes the majority of my time these days. My Cocktail Wonk site has over 200 rum articles, mostly on topics nobody else has written about. I’ve also turned into a full-fledged rum-historian, including authoring a book about British rum history during the colonial era. Currently I’m writing an extremely comprehensive book about modern Caribbean rum.
